Dietetics Appointments in Calgary

WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT:

The first appointment will be about 45 minutes to 1-hour. During this appointment the dietitian will ask questions to get to know you and the reason you’re here. The nutrition assessment involves progression through 4 steps:

Purpose and priorities

Understanding why you are seeking nutritional support will guide the entirety of the session and help form goals off the get-go.

Questions pertaining to the 4 pillars of Inspire Health will be assessed: sleep, nutrition, movement, and mental health. Weight history, energy levels, and pre-existing health conditions will also be discussed and taken into consideration.

Discussion of allergies/intolerances/sensitivities, supplements, fluid intake, GI function, and more will take place. Here we will also go through what a typical day of eating looks like for you.

Based on any gaps identified in your typical day of eating, you will work alongside the dietitian to brainstorm a meal plan to help you get closer to your health goals. During this time, we will also determine our top 3 action items or goals to work towards.

Will I have a follow-up appointment?

Yes, you should expect to have at least one follow-up appointment. During a follow-up appointment, the dietitian will track your progress, provide more tips and information, and adjust the nutrition plan as needed. Here we will discuss what’s going well, what’s not going well, allow you to ask questions, and receive support and feedback from your dietitian.

How to prepare for your dietetics appointment

Think about your goals – what is it that you want to change or improve?

  • Bring a list of medications and supplements you take or have the bottles handy during the session.
  • In some cases, it may be helpful to keep a food diary for a few days
  • Write out any questions you want to ask
  • Come with an open mind and prepared to be empowered to make positive changes in your health!
