What is Health Coaching?

Our health coaching option is a one on one confidential video or phone call with the goal of guiding you to that important next step towards a healthier life.

This idea started from the realization that there are limitations within each healthcare professional’s scope of practice. For example, many of Mike’s physiotherapy patients had other health issues such as nutrition deficits or mental health barriers that prevented them from being able to carry out their physiotherapy program and reach their goals. Even after adding in a holistic screen into his practice many people coming into physiotherapy were not in a place in their life to deal with more than one thing at a time (e.g. deal with movement through physiotherapy and their mental health through psychology). Health coaching was already happening indirectly in these physiotherapy sessions however not to the extent to make enough of an impact. This led to the launch of the health coaching service in order to address people as a whole and give them the time they need to work together towards the best path forward.

Health coaching is a way  to get individualized guidance on how to reach your goals the fastest. At times there are many barriers that prevent us from reaching our goals. They usually fall into four categories: sleep, nutrition, movement, and mental health. These make up our foundational pillars with breathing as an encompassing fifth area of health that influences all the others.

When the primary barrier requires a solution that is outside of your coach’s scope, we will get you into the right professional’s hands in order to maintain an evidence informed approach. This may include health care professionals outside of Inspire Health & Performance as the most important goal for us is to get you on the best path possible whether through us or not. The quality of collaboration within our team and outside of our team is something that we pride ourselves on and separates us from the crowd.

The coaching calls consist of clearly identifying your top level goals, working with you to identify and address any barriers or challenges you may be facing, and to establish an action plan with a narrow focus to allow you to start making small, consistent steps forward. The key to making fast changes to your health is to make sure you are on the right path. Once you are there it’s all about making seemingly small, hardly noticeable steps forward consistently over time.
